Seeds of Hope is a missional project of Missio Lux that is partnering with Lost Boys of Sudan in America to identify, educate, and empower the orphaned and at-risk youth of Southern Sudan. Our goal is to restore hope, peace, and socio-economic self-sufficiency to their war-torn country.
In January of 2008, the Kakuma refugee camp began sending Sudanese refugees back to Sudan. Kakuma was home to thousands of displaced Sudanese orphaned children. Kakuma’s actions forced the orphaned children to go back into their country which had was no means of support, food, or education. Through our relationship with two of The Lost Boys of Sudan - John Kher of Bellevue, WA, and Arok Garang of Denver, CO - we have been able to identify and send 34 children from John and Arok’s community in Sudan to a boarding school in Nakuru, Kenya. The children receive quality education, safe secure shelter, regular meals, and medical attention in Kenya. There are at least 50 more Sudanese orphans waiting to attend. Seeds of Hope is restoring hope to these children and to the people of their community by giving them the opportunity to make a difference in the future of their country.
The Seeds of Hope mission is to raise awareness and funding to plant these kids who are the “seeds of hope” for Sudan in soil where they can flourish. The estimated cost of sending one child to school for a year is $1,200. Sponsorship of each child provides school tuition, school uniform, personal care items, and school supplies.
The Seeds of Hope team is a community of caring people connected in relationship through a common passion for the project. The team meets monthly to pray, connect and communicate in person, discuss and plan, and celebrate what God is doing in and through our project.
Growing our team is an integral goal. If what we are doing interests you, please contact Angie Ahlemeyer: 425.369.8431 or angiea@missiolux.org
