How do I start a Missio Community?

MC’s are simple, organic and easy to start.  It begins with a dream.  Your dream may be to develop deeper friendships with those around you.  It may be to serve in a specific way, either locally or globally.  It may be to investigate who Jesus is and to ask others to join you.

If you have a desire to be a Catalyst, contact Missio Lux and we will be happy to help equip you and walk alongside you until your MC is no longer a dream but a reality.

What is a Catalyst?

A Missio Community Catalyst is one that gets an MC started.  The Catalyst is not necessarily the leader, just the one who provides the momentum to get it going.

How do Missio Communities form?

Once again, one size doesn’t fit all in MC’s.

Missio Communities can form through:

1.     A specific missio purpose

2.    People connected in relationship that choose to “do life together”

3.    Specific life stage: (families with children or teens, singles, empty nesters)

4.    Geographical area (neighborhood, community, city)

What does it take to launch an Missio Community?

One person with a dream. This person is called the Catalyst.  The Catalyst prays, invites and provides momentum to start the MC ball rolling.  The Catalyst will complete Missio Lux Community Training and join a Huddle Group.  Most Catalysts work with a vision partner.

It doesn’t take much to start an MC.  Deciding a location (usually a home or a public space such as Starbucks or a restaurant), inviting people to join, and organizing the first gathering is about all it takes to get launched.

Once I take the step to form a Missio Community, what happens next?

1.     Fill out a Missio Commuity application and submit it.  This application will start an account for your MC

2.    Invite those that you desire to be part of your MC

3.    Set a date for your first gathering

4.    Celebrate when it happens

5.    Let Missio Lux and your Huddle know that you launched

6.    Attend a Missio Community training held quarterly

7.    Join the monthly Missio Lux Celebrations to become part of the larger Missio Lux community

What is the purpose of the MC account?

One of the most unique areas of Missio Lux is the funding structure.  Every MC will have a specific fund to which 75% of all giving dollars will be allotted.  This means that 75% of what each person in your MC gives will be available for you to live out your missio purpose.  The additional 25% will fund the administrative costs of salary, website, and overall Missio Lux events and structure.
